Country: El Salvador
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Status: Funded
Project Launch:Malnutrition is widespread in El Volcan, El Salvador and with more nutritious meals at school kids can grow stronger physically and mentally. To support more nutritious meals in schools, World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported a science education project that taught kids how to create natural compost for fertilizer and to support growth of local organic products for food. Kids were taught how to grow worms using worm bins filled with horse and cow manure and the fertilizer that was produced was then used to fertilize local gardens. The intention was to build a tilapia pond, but there were too many unresolved issues with electricity to do this. Instead, the fruits and vegetables that grew with the fertilizer were used for nutritious meals for the kids of El Volcan. The kids, parents and teachers all worked and learned together in the process. Funding was also used for chidren to paint light posts in the community and the project ended with a field day for the students.
